Clashes and explosives attack at military complex in Colombia, at least three dead

Three soldiers were killed and four were wounded in an explosives attack from a drone in northeastern Colombia, the military said today.
Following last night’s attack, a clash broke out at the military complex, and local authorities blamed the rebel National Liberation Army (ELN).
The attack targeted a military unit in the municipality of Ocaña, in the department of Norte de Santander, which borders Venezuela.
Two soldiers died at the scene of the accident, and a third died after receiving medical attention, the Colombian army said on X.
Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriela condemned the attack.
“For every police officer or soldier killed, we will bring the full weight and legitimate force of the state down on the criminals,” he said.
A significant part of the ELN organization, an armed group active since 1964, is stationed in the Catatumbo region, which includes parts of the departments of Norte de Santander and Cesár.
The ELN also provides sanctuary to dissident factions of the disbanded Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
Both groups are fighting for control of the strategically important area, which borders Venezuela and is one of the main cocaine production areas in Colombia.
