Chinese women three for four on day one of apparatus finals at women’s Asian Championships

Chinese gymnasts earned three of the four available golds on the first of two days of the apparatus finals at the women’s Asian Championships in Zunyi, China, on Saturday.

Vault top qualifier Yeo Seojeong of Korea placed first on that apparatus. The 24-year-old Yeo took bronze on vault at both the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the 2023 World Championships in Antwerp, and placed seventh on vault at the Paris 2024 Games.

Eight-time Olympian Oksana Chusovitina of Uzbekistan, who turned 51 on June 19, finished eighth on vault.

On uneven bars, China’s Qiu Qiyuan, the 2023 world champion and 2024 Olympic silver medalist on that apparatus, took gold over qualifications-leading teammate Du Siyu.

In the junior division, China’s Xie Guying won both available golds. She unofficially ranked third in Friday’s all-around competition behind gold medal-winning Zhong Qi and silver medal-winning Chen Ziyan, both of China, but was ineligible for an official ranking because of the two-gymnasts-per-country rule.

The competition ends Sunday with the remaining senior and junior apparatus finals.
