CHIMP SPORT: Vipers Unveil Nigerian Defender Tarabina

Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have strengthened their defence with the signing of Nigerian centre-back Princewill Biweribo Tarabina ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 23-year-old has joined the Venoms on a two-year contract after impressing during his time with Nigeria Premier Football League side Plateau United.

Tarabina made 20 league appearances last season, scoring twice and providing two assists, as he established himself as a regular in the heart of Plateau United’s defence. He also played for Bayelsa United, gaining valuable experience in Nigeria’s top flight.

His arrival adds depth and competition to a Vipers defence that will face a demanding schedule, with the club set to defend its league title while also competing in the Uganda Cup and CAF Champions League.

Vipers head coach Denis Lavagne welcomed the signing, saying the young defender has the potential to develop further at Kitende.

“I’m pleased that we have been able to add to our squad with the arrival of Princewill. The club is a great place for him to be and his game will develop further,” Lavagne told Vipers Media.

“He is a young talent who has experience at a high level, and he will continue to progress by training on a daily basis alongside the experienced centre-backs we have at the club in Hilary Mukundane, Kevin Dayslva and Nicholas Mwere.”

Tarabina expressed his excitement about joining the Ugandan champions and outlined his ambition to help the club retain the league title.

“I am very happy to be part of the Vipers Sports Club family. I can’t wait to meet my teammates, staff and fans of the club,” he said.

“I know Vipers is a great club in Uganda and I know they were league champions last season. We have to defend the title.”
The Nigerian also revealed his eagerness to work under Lavagne after seeing the progress made by young players under the French tactician.

“I can’t wait to start working with Lavagne, as I’ve seen the progress that young players can make working with him,” he added.

Tarabina becomes the latest addition to an increasingly ambitious Vipers squad, joining recent recruits Loyce Mbaba, Nicholas Mwere, Jacques Mangoba, Joel Sserunjongi and Farouk Miya. Cesar Manzoki has also returned to the club.

Tarabina is seen as a direct replacement for Rogers Torach who moved to CS Constantine.
