Chevron has uncovered a new oil and gas condensate find in Block 0 off the Angolan coast, with over 300 ft of net pay identified, as part of its broader exploration efforts in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The 105-4X well, situated in the Lower Congo basin, revealed a hydrocarbon column of more than 2,000 ft within the main Pinda reservoir, including over 300 ft of net pay in what the company termed high-quality reservoir rock. Chevron plans to evaluate the discovery for a possible tie-back to existing nearby facilities, which could offer a cost-effective path to production.

Kevin McLachlan, Chevron’s Vice President of Exploration, stated that this find marks a significant achievement in the firm’s more than seven decades of operations in Angola. He emphasized that the approach of pairing high-impact exploration with infrastructure-led prospects near current assets is expanding the resource base, generating value, and underscoring both the success of the strategy and the company’s ongoing faith in Angola’s resource prospects.

Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Ltd. (CABGOC), a Chevron subsidiary, operates Block 0 with a 39.2% working interest. Sonangol E&P holds a 41% stake, TotalEnergies 10%, and Azule Energy 9.8%.

This discovery bolsters Chevron’s wider exploration drive across Sub-Saharan Africa, where it currently produces roughly 300,000 net barrels of oil equivalent per day. In Nigeria, the company has expanded its offshore footprint via farm-ins to PPL2000 and PPL2001, along with the award of deepwater block PPL2010. Since late 2024, it has also achieved three near-field exploration successes—Meji NW-1, South Delta AA, and Awodi-07—and continues exploration and appraisal work there.

Chevron has likewise strengthened its presence in Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea, while also pursuing further exploration offshore Angola, including in Blocks 49 and 50, Block 33, and Block 14/23. The company is gearing up for a multi-well exploration campaign across the region, with plans to drill the Nabba-1X well on PEL90 offshore Namibia by the end of 2026.
