Chevron Corp and its partners are considering a tieback for a new oil and gas condensate discovery in Block 0 in Angolan waters.
Drilled in the Lower Congo Basin, exploration well 105-4X showed a hydrocarbon column of over 600 meters (about 1,969 feet) in the primary Pinda reservoir. The well yielded more than 90 meters of net pay with “excellent reservoir quality”, the Houston, Texas-based energy giant said in a press release Monday.
The discovery will be assessed for potential development using Chevron’s existing nearby infrastructure, the company said.
Block 0 is already in production through Mafumeira. Mafumeira Sul, the second-stage development of the field, went onstream 2017, as announced by Chevron March 6 that year. Mafumeira Sul, which holds potential recoverable resources of 300 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe), has a daily production capacity of 150,000 barrels of liquids and 350 million cubic feet (MMcf) of gas, Chevron says on its website.
Chevron operates Block 0 with a 39.2 percent stake through Cabinda Gulf Oil Co Ltd. Sociedade Nacional de Combustíveis de Angola EP owns 41 percent. France’s TotalEnergies SE holds 10 percent. Azule Energy, equally owned by Britain’s BP PLC and Italy’s state-backed Eni SpA, has 9.8 percent.
Elsewhere in Angola, Chevron continues to explore blocks 14/23, 33, 49 and 50, Monday’s announcement said.
Last year the Central African country contributed 58,000 boe a day to Chevron’s net production, according to the company’s annual report supplement. That included 45 MMcf a day of gas.
“Beyond Angola, the discovery builds on a successful exploration program in Sub-Saharan Africa where Chevron is currently producing around 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day net”, Chevron said. “Chevron’s existing resource base and active exploration program across the region is [sic] positioned to sustain and grow production into the future.
“Chevron has continued to add high-quality exploration acreage to its existing portfolio in the past 12 months in the region.
“In Nigeria, the company farmed into two offshore blocks last year (PPL2000 and PPL2001) and was awarded a deepwater block PPL2010 in the country’s latest bid round. Chevron has also had three near-field exploration successes – Meji NW-1, South Delta AA and Awodi-07 – in Nigeria since late 2024, where it is continuing an ongoing exploration and appraisal program.
“In Guinea-Bissau Chevron has secured three blocks including the newly acquired Block 4B which closed on August 13th, 2026, while in Equatorial Guinea it has secured an additional five-block reconnaissance licenses”.
