The Ministrr of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher al-Baour, met the head and members of a CEN-SAD assessment team on Thursday to discuss the return of the bloc’s executive secretariat to Tripoli.
The Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) team had assessed the security and political situation in Libya ahead of the proposed return of its secretariat to the capital.
Al-Baour welcomed the team’s recommendation, describing it as an important step towards restoring CEN-SAD’s role and institutions in Libya.
The Foreign Ministry quoted al-Baour as saying that the recommendation reflected confidence in Libya’s ability to host the secretariat and contribute to African cooperation.
The next step will be a CEN-SAD ministerial council meeting in Tripoli in November, which is expected to pave the way for a summit of the bloc’s heads of state and government.
