Cameroon’s Exports to U.S. More Than Double in Seven Months

Cameroon’s goods exports to the United States reached CFAF 151.9 billion ($269 million) between January and July 2026. A year earlier, they stood at CFAF 69.3 billion. According to U.S. Census Bureau data, exports more than doubled in value, rising 119.2%, an increase of CFAF 82.6 billion.

The figures are based on U.S. imports from Cameroon recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau. The monthly figures were uneven, however, with purchases heavily concentrated in April and May.

April and May Accounted for 78.5% of the Increase

Sales reached CFAF 56.2 billion in April and CFAF 29.7 billion in May. Together, the two months accounted for CFAF 85.9 billion, or 56.5% of exports recorded between January and July.

A year-on-year comparison shows how much April and May drove the increase. Combined purchases in the two months rose from $37.2 million in 2025 to $152.1 million in 2026, an increase of $114.9 million. That increase accounted for 78.5% of the $146.3 million year-on-year gain recorded over the full seven-month period, based on calculations using the published data.

The other months recorded lower amounts. Sales stood at CFAF 12.2 billion in January and CFAF 19.7 billion in February, before falling to CFAF 11.2 billion in March. After peaking in April and May, they dropped back to CFAF 11.2 billion in June, then edged up to CFAF 11.6 billion in July.

Trade Surplus Reaches CFAF 54.2 Billion

U.S. exports to Cameroon also increased. They reached CFAF 97.7 billion in the first seven months of 2026, up from CFAF 49.5 billion a year earlier, an increase of 97.3%. Based on the U.S. data, Cameroon recorded a trade surplus of CFAF 54.2 billion over the period. The balance does not include trade in services.

The trade data do not identify the products or companies behind the flows. They also do not distinguish between changes in prices and shipment volumes. The data therefore do not show whether the April-May surge was broad-based across several sectors or driven by a small number of shipments.
