Cameroon Regulator, MTN and Orange Discuss Network Quality and Coverage
Discussions focused on several priorities for Cameroon’s electronic communications sector, including quality of service (QoS), customer experience, network security and equitable access to telecommunications services across the country.
Cameroon’s Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ART) has held a working session with the country’s major mobile operators, MTN Cameroon and Orange Cameroon, to discuss network performance, security and telecommunications coverage.
The meeting was chaired by ART Director General Professor Philémon Zoo Zame on September 10, 2026, at the Platinum Building. MTN Cameroon Director General Wanda Matandela and Orange Cameroon Director General Patrick Benon attended the session alongside senior officials and representatives from the regulator and the two operators.
Discussions focused on several priorities for Cameroon’s electronic communications sector, including quality of service (QoS), customer experience, network security and equitable access to telecommunications services across the country.
The regulator and operators reviewed measures already implemented or recommended to improve network performance and ensure a more satisfactory experience for subscribers. The discussions also examined ongoing consultations with government agencies on telecommunications network security and subscriber identification.
Territorial coverage was another key issue. Zoo Zame stressed the need to extend telecommunications networks to underserved areas while complying with existing regulations. The regulator said improving coverage would help reduce Cameroon’s digital divide and ensure citizens across the country have more equitable access to electronic communications services.
The meeting forms part of ART’s ongoing engagement with telecommunications operators as Cameroon advances its digitalisation efforts. The regulator said continued dialogue with industry stakeholders remains important for addressing sector challenges and supporting the development of the country’s electronic communications ecosystem.
