The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the preliminary round draws for the 2026/27 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup will be held on Thursday, August 6, at its headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Enugu Rangers and runners-up Rivers United will represent the country in the CAF Champions League, while third-placed 3SC and President Federation Cup winners El-Kanemi Warriors will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.
In a statement issued yesterday, CAF said clubs from across the continent will discover their first-round opponents as they begin the race for places in the group stage of Africa’s two premier club competitions.
The continental football governing body also announced that the winners of the CAF Champions League will receive a prize of $6 million, while the CAF Confederation Cup champions will earn $4 million.
CAF added that clubs eliminated in the preliminary rounds will each receive a solidarity payment of $100,000 as part of its continued commitment to supporting participating teams and strengthening its inter-club competitions.
According to CAF, the preliminary rounds have produced memorable contests and exciting storylines in recent seasons, bringing together established continental heavyweights and ambitious emerging clubs seeking to make their mark on the African stage.
South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns are the reigning CAF Champions League champions, while Algeria’s USM Alger are the defending CAF Confederation Cup holders.
