Botswana Club Welcomes SA Football Legend

South African football legend Jomo Sono will be in Botswana this weekend, and the hosts, Township Rollers, say they are looking forward to his visit.

Township Rollers will host Extension Gunners on Sunday at the National Stadium in the capital, Gaborone, where the Black Prince of South African football will be the guest of honour.

Soccer Laduma spoke to Rollers chairman Thapelo Pabalinga, who took over the running of the club in January. He explained why Sono’s visit is key for the club’s future.

“We are overly excited to be hosting Mr Jomo Sono as Township Rollers,” Pabalinga told this publication.

“For many years Township Rollers has had a relationship with (Jomo) Cosmos. So these are relationships that we would like to resuscitate,” he continued.

“As you may be aware, I’ve been the chairman of Township Rollers since January this year. So I’m really trying to reshape the team back to its glory and resuscitate relationships that we’ve had in the past with other teams across Africa.

“So Mr Jomo Sono needs no introduction. He’s one of the best brains in football in Africa. So him coming to be a guest at one of the biggest fixtures we have this season is something that pleases our hearts.

“His counsel and his advice on anything football-related are always a welcome development. So we are excited to be hosting Mr Jomo Sono and look forward to it.”
