Ghana’s Black Maidens took another significant step toward securing a place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after defeating Liberia 2-0 in Monrovia on Saturday, completing a dominant 8-0 aggregate victory over their West African neighbours.

Having already established a commanding advantage from the first leg, the Black Maidens showed no signs of complacency at the SKD Sports Complex, producing another disciplined and clinical performance away from home.

Both sides began brightly, with the opening exchanges seeing Liberia attempt to impose themselves in front of their home supporters. However, Ghana struck first in the 15th minute through a familiar source. Set-piece specialist Seidatu delivered a trademark free-kick that flew straight into the net, giving the visitors a deserved lead.

Liberia responded by looking to exploit counterattacking opportunities in search of an equaliser, but the Black Maidens’ defence remained alert throughout, reading the danger well and clearing comfortably whenever called upon.

The hosts worked tirelessly at the back and managed to block several Ghanaian attacks, but the Maidens continued to dictate proceedings and carried their 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.

The visitors doubled their lead shortly after the restart. In the 51st minute, Juliana Gyekyewaa produced another stunning free-kick, powering her effort beyond the Liberian goalkeeper to make it 2-0 and effectively end any hopes of a comeback.

Despite Liberia’s attempts to remain compact defensively, Ghana’s intelligent movement off the ball consistently created spaces and ensured they maintained control of the contest.

At the final whistle, the Black Maidens celebrated a deserved 2-0 victory on the day and an emphatic 8-0 aggregate triumph, underlining their credentials as serious contenders in the qualification campaign.

The result sees the Black Maidens return to Accra full of confidence as they move one step closer to realizing their dream of competing on the world stage.
