Edo communities along the Benin-Akure highway have commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for road infrastructure and other developmental projects in the state.
The representatives of the communities gave the commendation during a courtesy call on the governor who was represented by his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, in Benin on Tuesday.
According to a statement on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Mr Friday Aghedo, the communities particularly hailed the governor on the ongoing reconstruction of the Benin-Akure Highway by the Federal Government.
Speaking on behalf of the communities, Secretary, Evboneka Community, Ekhoesuehi Cardinal, said the project has brought smiles to the faces of the communities, adding that they are anticipating a boost of economic activities at the completion of the road.
While noting that the highway created a lot of inconveniences owing to its sorry state before the intervention, Ekhoesuehi was hopeful that the reconstruction would improve transportation and attract investors.
“The road rehabilitation is a good development and the communities are sure that it will open up the area,” he added
The governor appealed to the communities to take ownership of the project by assisting the contractor to ensure that the project is delivered according to specification.
He described the reconstruction of the Benin-Akure road as “a landmark” project that will open up communities and stimulate socio-economic growth across the state.
He called for continual support to President Bola Tinubu in order to benefit more of his Renewed Hope Agenda in the State.
“I will advise the communities to own the project and also support the contractor so that the project can be delivered as scheduled,” he added.
Special Adviser on Project Monitoring and Evaluation to the Edo State Governor, Mr Phoebe Williams-Bello assured residents that the government remains committed to ensuring the successful completion of the project, among others.
