beIN Sports’ Hussein Yassin: Morocco’s World Cup Run Is ‘Truly Historic’

Rabat – Following Saudi Arabia’s 4–0 defeat against Spain in the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, beIN Sports journalist Hossein Yassin commented that while Arab losses to global giants are expected, Morocco’s exceptional run stands out as a historic achievement.

Clarifying his stance, Yassin made it clear on X that he wasn’t trying to excuse the heavy defeat.

“This is not a defense of the Saudi national team, basically, it’s impossible to defend a team that lost by such a score and with such ease,” the journalist stated.

Yassin noted that falling to elite European powerhouses is an expected outcome for regional teams on the world stage.

“To lose like this against Spain or France, for example, against the world’s strongest teams, is a natural thing in my opinion when it comes to our Arab national teams” he explained.

Turning his attention to Morocco, the beIN Sports journalist explained why their current run defies the usual narrative for regional teams: “We don’t have the slightest chance of holding our own against these teams… That’s why what the Moroccan national team is doing is a very big and historic thing in every sense of the word.”

Morocco has positioned itself strongly in the World Cup, leading Group C with four points. Following a 1–0 victory over Scotland secured by an early goal from Ismael Saibari, the Atlas Lions remain undefeated as they head into their final group stage match.

The Atlas Lions will wrap up the group stage against Haiti on June 24 at Atlanta Stadium. A win or a draw will officially secure Morocco’s spot in the Round of 32.
