Steve Barker’s debut season in Tanzanian was more successful than not. The South African won two cup trophies in his first season, leading the Reds of Msimbazi to the CRDB Bank Federation Cup (Tanzanian FA Cup) and the Muungano Cup.

He was, however, unable to guide them to a league title after losing to rivals Young Africans (Yanga) by just two points, despite an impressive 25-game unbeaten run in the league.

‘We Will Fight For Everything’

Not wanting to rest on his laurels, Barker revealed that he and his team will enjoy a well-deserved break before returning with a vengeance next season, according to Daily News.

“We need a rest now, and we come back next year and we fight for every trophy that’s on offer,” Barker after the Cup final win against Azam.

“It was a hard, hard game. Hard fought, I think a typical cup final, but credit must go to the players. They’ve been superb since I arrived and they deserve this win 100 per cent,” he said.

The former Stellenbosch coach also praised the members of the club and the technical staff, in addition to fans and players, for their triumphant season.

Simba Will Be Strengthened

According to Pan-Africa Football, Simba president Mohammed Dewji has promised that he will aid Barker’s bid for a trophy challenge by investing in the squad next season.

Dewji stated he is fully committed to helping the team with reinforcements, in line with Barker’s recommendations.

“Our goal is to ensure Simba continues performing well in domestic competitions and, one day, wins the CAF Champions League,” Dewji stated. “To achieve that dream, we must have a strong squad with players who possess the quality needed to compete at the highest level,” he concluded.

In addition to fighting to end their league title drought, Simba will also be defending their cup next season, while they also secured qualification to next season’s CAF Champions League.

The club will also make a long-awaited return to the CECAFA Kagame Cup in Kigali, Rwanda, from July 24 to August 8, marking their first appearance in the regional tournament since 2018.
