Barcelona Exploring Option to Host Friendly Match in Morocco

Meknes – FC Barcelona are once again considering a trip to Morocco for a pre-season friendly. The idea, which had been previously discussed by club officials, is back on the table as the Catalan side plans its preparations for the upcoming campaign.

“Barcelona is still working on another friendly match, and the option to play in Morocco remains on the table for now. It’s necessary to wait a few additional days to know the extent to which this matter can be confirmed or ruled out. Negotiations are ongoing,” journalist Achraf Ben Ayad posted on X on Monday.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, the fixture offers both tactical and financial rewards for the Catalan side. Playing on Moroccan soil allows Barça to engage with their huge North African fanbase, strengthening their regional footprint while unlocking new commercial revenue streams.

Key details regarding the opponent and match date remain to be confirmed as club management works to fit the fixture into a tight pre-season schedule, though negotiations are scheduled to continue over the coming days.

Pending a final decision on the trip, Barça continue their focus on the immediate pre-season schedule. The team will close out their English training camp with friendly games against Birmingham City on July 31 and Preston North End on August 3.

Following their fixtures in England, Barcelona will head to Italy to participate in the Udine triangular tournament on August 8, taking on Nottingham Forest and Udinese.

The Catalan side will then return home to contest the Joan Gamper Trophy on August 19 against Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly before kicking off their official campaign.
