Bandits Kill 4 in Kano Attack as Troops Rescue Abducted Woman, Four Children in Niger
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD have intensified ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the North-West and North-Central regions, responding to attacks on communities and rescuing civilians during separate military operations in Kano and Niger states.
Security sources disclosed that troops of Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), responded to a terrorist attack on Yan Kamaye Village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, where four residents were reportedly killed.
The incident occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on May 11, prompting troops deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Yanchibi to swiftly mobilise to the community following a distress call.
According to the sources, the assailants attacked the village, killed four residents and rustled an unconfirmed number of cattle before fleeing the area.
“On arrival at the scene, troops discovered that four residents had been killed during the attack,” a source said.
“The terrorists also rustled an unconfirmed number of cattle before escaping,” the source added.
Troops have since launched efforts to track down the fleeing attackers and recover the stolen livestock.
In a related development, troops of Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD rescued a woman and four children during an ambush operation against suspected terrorists in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
Military sources said the operation was conducted at about 6:45 a.m. on May 10 by troops of Combat Service and Infantry Brigade (CSIB) XVI deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Audu Fari.
The troops reportedly laid an ambush at Bakpa Village following intelligence reports on the movement of terrorists attempting to cross from Jadua area into the Kainji Lake National Park (KLNP) axis.
“The troops made contact with the terrorists while they were attempting to infiltrate the area,” a military source disclosed.
“On sighting the troops, the terrorists abandoned their families and fled into the forest to evade arrest,” the source added.
Troops subsequently rescued one adult female and four children abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
Items recovered from the scene included three motorcycles and a mobile phone believed to belong to the terrorists.
The rescued victims are receiving necessary care, while troops have continued clearance and pursuit operations aimed at tracking the fleeing suspects and denying terrorist elements freedom of movement within the area.
Security sources said the operations formed part of sustained military offensives and intelligence-driven missions targeting terrorist and bandit networks operating across vulnerable communities in the North-West and North-Central regions.
