Banbury United shirts donated to footballers in Sierra Leone

Simon Pearce’s collection of Banbury United football shirts is now being worn by young footballers in Sierra Leone.

After Mr Pearce’s untimely death, the shirts were collected from his flat and passed on through Alan Wolstencroft of the Rotary Club.

They were then sent to Sierra Leone, where they have been gratefully received by local footballers.

Comprising shirts from various seasons, the collection serves as a tribute to Mr Pearce’s dedication to his favourite football team.

Ronnie, who shared the photographs, said Simon would have been ‘over the moon’ to see his beloved Banbury United shirts being worn on the African continent.

It is a remarkable way for Mr Pearce’s passion for the club to continue, as his shirts travel across the world, taking a little piece of Banbury United to West Africa.

Mr Pearce was a true Banbury United fanatic who died far too young.

His love for the club now lives on in a wonderful legacy, as his shirts bring joy to football enthusiasts in Sierra Leone, spreading the spirit of the club he loved so much.

Banbury United Football Club was founded in 1931 and is North Oxfordshire’s largest football club.

Known as The Puritans, the community-owned club is based at the TUGO Community Stadium in central Banbury.
