Atlas Lionesses eye WAFCON final against Cameroon

National coach Jorge Vilda announced Tuesday in Rabat that the women’s national team, having secured a spot in the upcoming World Cup, is now fully concentrated on the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2026) semi-final against Cameroon. This crucial match is set for Wednesday, August 12, at 9:00 p.m. at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat.

During the pre-match press conference, Vilda highlighted that the Atlas Lionesses aim to reach the final for the third consecutive time. He emphasized the need for a stellar performance against the «difficult to play against» Cameroonian team.

«The players are ready for this match», the Spanish coach stated, affirming that the national team «will give their utmost in what promises to be a fiercely contested game».

National team player Sanna Mssoudy stressed the crucial role of Moroccan supporters, noting that the fans could be pivotal in the match’s outcome. «We expect a large turnout, as their support could help us secure victory against Cameroon», she expressed.

«We will approach the game with confidence and responsibility to achieve our goal of reaching the final», she added, mentioning that the World Cup qualification offers additional motivation to face the game with the right mindset.

Mssoudy also highlighted the high stakes of the semi-final. «We cannot afford errors, as matches like this are decisive. We will showcase the very best of Moroccan women’s football against Cameroon», she concluded.
