Artificial intelligence summit Yemen 2026 launched in Sanaa

The Artificial Intelligence Summit Yemen 2026 launched on Wednesday in Sanaa on Monday under the theme Towards a Smart Future and Sustainable Development.
The summit explores the latest developments in artificial intelligence and its applications across key sectors, while promoting innovation, scientific research, digital transformation, and partnerships aimed at supporting sustainable development. Participants are also discussing proposals for a national vision and platform to advance Yemen’s digital future through AI and emerging technologies.
Speaking at the opening session, Deputy Minister of Education and Scientific Research Dr. Hatem Al-Duais said artificial intelligence has become a strategic necessity rather than a technological luxury. He praised the university’s initiative, describing the summit as a step toward establishing a national AI strategy that brings together policymakers, researchers, academics, and industry experts to strengthen innovation and build technical capacity.
Al-Duais stressed the importance of keeping pace with technological advances and encouraged specialists to develop local AI platforms and leverage open-source technologies to build systems tailored to Yemen’s needs and regulatory environment.
Executive Director of the Information Technology Center Dr. Fouad Abdul-Razzaq highlighted the need for a national AI strategy to guide the adoption of artificial intelligence across development projects.
He emphasized investment in domestic AI models, technology localization, and the application of AI in sectors including public services, healthcare, education, agriculture, and human development.
Modern Specialized University President Dr. Mujahid Al-Jabr described the summit as an opportunity to help shape Yemen’s digital future, noting that artificial intelligence has become a key driver of global economic and scientific progress.
He said the summit seeks to foster dialogue on AI ethics and governance while strengthening cooperation among universities, government institutions, and the private sector.
He expressed hope that the event would lead to the establishment of a Yemeni Society for Artificial Intelligence and the development of a national AI vision accompanied by a comprehensive governance framework.
The opening ceremony was attended by university presidents, representatives of higher education institutions, government agencies, the private sector, and the Innovation, Science and Technology Authority.
It featured a presentation on the future of artificial intelligence in Yemen before the launch of scientific sessions, lectures, workshops, and technical discussions.
Research presentations covered AI applications in healthcare, education, agriculture, banking, cybersecurity, scientific research, innovation, digital economy, infrastructure, digital sovereignty, and AI governance.
The event is organized by the Modern Specialized University and brings together academics, researchers, technology experts, students, and representatives of Yemeni universities and institutions.
Participants also toured an AI exhibition held alongside the summit, where more than 20 student-developed engineering projects incorporating artificial intelligence were showcased.
