Arsenal set to smash British transfer record for Real Madrid’s Brazil star with audacious £120m bid for Vinicius Junior

Arsenal have identified Vinicius Junior as their number one attacking target this summer, with the Premier League champions continuing to monitor the Brazilian’s contract situation at Real Madrid. A package as high as £120 million could be submitted.

It is understood that the Gunners have been working behind the scenes on a potential deal for several months, aware that negotiations between Vinicius and Real Madrid have failed to produce a breakthrough. Those close to the situation believe the coming days could prove decisive, with further talks scheduled between the player and the Spanish giants next week.

Real Madrid have proposed a new contract worth around €20 million per year in an attempt to tie the 26-year-old down to a long-term extension. However, there remains a significant gap between the two parties, and an agreement has yet to be reached.

It is understood that a move to North London appeals to Vinicius should he ultimately decide against renewing his contract with Jose Mourinho’s side. Personal terms are not expected to be a problem after recent developments last night. A huge boost for for the Gunners.

While Arsenal have traditionally operated within a strict wage structure under Mikel Arteta, the club are prepared to make an exception for a player of Vinicius’ qualities. A substantial signing bonus and favourable image rights agreement are also viewed as possible ways of convincing him financially without the weekly wage being too high compared to if he was at Madrid.

Real Madrid’s anticipated signing of highly rated winger Yan Diomande is viewed by sources close to Arsenal as a potentially significant development. There is a belief that Vinicius could see the move as Real Madrid already starting to replace him which pushes him more towards an exit if the contract talks collapse.

There are also suggestions that influential figures within Real Madrid would be willing to sanction a sale this summer rather than risk losing one of the world’s best players on a free transfer in 2027. Although new manager Jose Mourinho is a huge admirer of Vinicius, it is understood he would respect whatever decision the club ultimately makes regarding the winger’s future.

Last season was another outstanding campaign for the Brazil international. Across all competitions he contributed 22 goals and 11 assists, once again demonstrating why he is regarded as one of the most dangerous left wingers in the game.

For Arsenal, signing Vinicius would be one of the biggest signings they have ever done and probably larger than any other Premier League transfer. A deal that would send a clear message that Arsenal are very keen on retaining their league title and winning multiple other trophies.

For now, however, everything depends on the outcome of the next round of contract talks in Madrid. If Vinicius commits his future to Real Madrid, Arsenal are expected to move on to alternative targets.
