Argentina Coach: ‘Algeria Are Similar to Morocco’

With the 2026 World Cup already delivering its share of surprises, the reigning world champions begin their campaign tonight against an Algerian side that head coach Lionel Scaloni believes shares many similarities with Morocco, insisting his team can’t afford to underestimate them.

With a few upsets already on board, the Argentinian coach knows there are no easy games in this World Cup. Spain could only manage a draw against a resilient Cape Verde side, Qatar held Switzerland to a draw, and Australia shocked and dominated Turkey.

These and other results have confirmed the growing notion that there are no easy matches anymore. As such, Argentina, the defending champions, are visibly preparing with caution and care to play their first match against a tricky Algerian side making their return to the World Cup stage since 2014.

The Argentinian coach dived deep into Algeria’s system during the pre-match press conference, drawing a direct comparison with Morocco

“Algeria is a similar opponent to Morocco; they play in much the same way, with great players and a good coach,” he suggested.

For him, the Atlas Lions and The Desert Foxes squads function share the same foundational footballing philosophy: a strong defensive organization, a strong reliability on physical intensity, and a striking ability to unsettle the top nations.

And he further cited Spain’s struggles against Cape Verde as ultimate proof that nothing is given in this World Cup group phase.

“There are no easy opponents. Algeria worries us because they are a great team,” he insisted.

With one side looking to make a statement, and the other further reinforcing its dominance on the global stage, all that is left is to sit back and watch how it all unfolds tonight.
