Ankle monitors forced on Haitian immigrants in Ohio
Local newspapers and television stations in and near Springfield, Ohio, are reporting that Haitian refugees who had Temporary Protected Status (TPS) are being summoned to ICE offices in Cincinnati and forced to wear ankle monitors.
350,000 Haitian immigrants have already been stripped of TPS, losing their work authorizations and right to stay here, even after many years. They are now subject to deportation orders, and Trump and Miller have made it clear they want the Haitian community gone, despite conditions in Haiti being so dire that Americans are warned against travel there.
With tracking devices, ICE can far more easily track down and seize immigrants – much more efficient than the paper tags for Japanese Americans in WWII or yellow stars in Nazi Germany. Maybe Trump’s DHS goons can increase their quota from 3,000 a day, and cause even more chaos and misery.
Various groups are aware of this and trying to organize rapid response on the ground. It won’t be just Ohio, either – there are large groups of Haitians in Florida and elsewhere.
