The National Bank of Angola slashed its key interest rate by 100 bps to 14.75% at its August 2026 meeting, marking the third consecutive rate cut.to the lowest since 2016.
Policymakers cited the sustained disinflationary trend and an improving economic outlook, despite uncertainty stemming from the conflict in the Middle East. The annual inflation rate fell to 8.78% in August 2026 from 9.33% in July, marking the lowest since April 2015 and extending the downward trend observed since mid-2024.
Meanwhile, economic growth accelerated sharply to 8.74% year-on-year in Q2 2026, marking its strongest expansion since Q2 2022, up from 5.32% in Q1.
