On May 28, 2026, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng attended the centennial gala of China Institute of America in New York upon invitation and delivered remarks.

Ambassador Xie extended his warmest congratulations on China Institute of America’s centennial. He noted that a century of winds and rains has only made China Institute more steadfast in its founding mission. Upholding the principle of “bridging cultures and fostering understanding”, it has worked tirelessly to bring our two peoples closer together and build a cultural bridge across the Pacific. A century of dedication has borne rich fruit. As one of the longest-standing institutions in the United States devoted to introducing Chinese culture, China Institute has been both a witness to and a driving force behind mutual understanding and trust between the two peoples. A century of progress has made China Institute a true leader in cultural exchange. It has been committed to presenting to the American public a real, multidimensional, and comprehensive view of China, bringing warmth, vitality and fresh momentum to China-U.S. relations. A century of cultural inheritance has given rise to ever-new brilliance. An exhibition commemorating Mei Lanfang’s historic American tour recently opened in New York is not only a resonant echo of history, but also a tribute to exchanges and mutual learning between Eastern and Western civilizations in the new era.

Ambassador Xie stated that President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump recently held a successful meeting in Beijing, during which the two sides agreed on a new vision of a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability. He emphasized that as China and the United States arrive once again at a historic crossroads, we need more than ever before to seek common ground to forge ahead together. In this context, people-to-people and cultural exchanges have become all the more important. He expressed hope that China Institute would carry forward its proud heritage and contribute wisdom and strength to the shared endeavor of China and the United States to find the right way to get along in the new era—one grounded in mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation.

Founded in New York in 1926, China Institute of America is dedicated to enhancing the American public’s understanding of China and Chinese culture through programs in culture, education, and business.
