Alabama gas prices continue to fluctuate after Trump ends Iran ceasefire

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Alabama drivers are paying about $3.50 per gallon of gas following President Trump’s declaration that the ceasefire with Iran is over. Prices are nearly a dollar more than the $2.65 per gallon drivers paid in February.

Gas prices in Alabama are up four cents compared to this time last week, according to AAA. Despite the increase, prices remain below the highs seen earlier this year.

“But they still are not as high in this moment as they were in the springtime in the middle of May,” AAA spokesperson Sheri Falk said. “We saw prices over $4 a gallon at that time during the spring break holiday and Memorial Day.”

Falk said predicting what the market might do next is difficult, adding that prices depend on the cost of crude oil, which is currently sitting at about $70 a barrel.

“Gas prices rise like a rocket, and they fall like a feather,” Falk said.

Falk recommends shopping around for gas to find the best price.

“I know some people say ‘Well, it’s only a cent or a couple cents off per gallon,’ but at the end of the month you’ll really start to see that difference in what you saved,” Falk said.

Drivers can also save at the pump by maintaining proper air pressure in their tires, mapping out routes before leaving and signing up for gas station rewards programs.
