On October 3, India and Brazil shall face each other for the first time ever. The match is going to be played in Kolkata. Now it seems that India may play another country that took part in the FIFA World Cup 2026. This side made its debut and went as far as the Round of 32 and also held eventual champions Spain to a goalless draw in the group stage. Yes, we are talking about Cape Verde.

Cape Verde Coming to India?
Sources say that India could take on Cape Verde on a date somewhere between September 30 and October 6. According to a PTI report, the fixture may be played before or after the much-anticipated Brazil clash.
Not Yet Official
“The talks are on, but it is yet to be finalised. But there is high probability that India will host Cape Verde between September 30 and October 6,” a source told PTI.
“The venue and date will be decided after it’s officially finalised. The modalities and deliberations are on. Hopefully, it will be finalised shortly,” it added.
Cape Verde’s FIFA World Cup 2026 Campaign
Cape Verde are currently ranked 64th in the world. In what was their 1st FIFA World Cup, the Africans drew 0-0 vs Spain, held Uruguay 2-2 and had another goalless draw with Saudi Arabia to enter the Round of 32. They came back from behind twice vs Argentina to finally lose 3-2 in extra time. Spain beat Argentina to win the title. Cape Verde and drawn with one and almost knocked out the other. A performance to be proud of.
An Interesting Record
When Cape Verde debuted at the FIFA World Cup 2026, a record was set for the smallest country taking part. When it comes to population among World Cup teams, only Iceland has less. Shall we see them in India in less than two months? It could happen!
