Egypt and Russia advance key strategic and energy projects
The two ministers reviewed progress on several major initiatives, highlighting the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant as a primary example of their collaboration.
They celebrated the recent installation of the reactor pressure vessel for the facility’s second nuclear unit. Describing the nuclear plant as one of the key strategic initiatives reflecting the depth of the Egyptian-Russian partnership.
Additionally, both sides discussed the development of the Russian Industrial Zone located within the Suez Canal Economic Zone, stressing the importance of expediting the necessary procedures to activate the zone and launch its operations.
Russia and Egypt boost Mediterranean tourism and travel connections
A major highlight of the discussion was the expansion of travel links between the two countries.
Russian authorities recently decided to open direct air routes from Russia to Alexandria and Alamein International Airports.
Abdelatty welcomed this decision, noting that the new routes would “open new destinations for Russian tourists” along the Mediterranean coast while “boosting tourism and people-to-people ties”.
Egypt and Russia address regional stability and international conflicts
Beyond economic and bilateral ties, the ministers exchanged views on pressing regional and international issues.
They touched upon Middle East security, including a joint proposal by Iran and Oman to create a temporary maritime corridor in the Strait of Hormuz.
Regarding the Russia-Ukraine war, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s support for “reaching a political settlement to the crisis” and finding a solution through diplomatic channels to help end the conflict and achieve stability.
