AFCON U-17: Uganda’s Cubs Return with Purpose starting with a game against Dr Congo – Africa Top Sports

Uganda will step onto the continental stage with renewed belief as they prepare for their second appearance at the TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, carrying the weight of progress and the promise of a rising generation.

The Cubs arrive at the tournament on the back of an impressive qualification campaign that underlined the steady growth of youth football in the country. Over the past decade, Uganda has invested in development structures, and the results are beginning to show, with a new wave of talent eager to test itself against Africa’s best.

Their route to the finals was emphatic. Playing on home soil, Uganda dominated the CECAFA U-17 Championship, sweeping aside regional rivals with a blend of attacking flair and defensive discipline. This upcoming appearance marks Uganda’s return to the competition for the first time since their debut in 2019, when they were guided by Ghanaian coach Samuel Kwasi Fabin. At the back, captain Richard Okello offers leadership and composure. The defender’s ability to organize the backline and inspire those around him will be vital as Uganda faces more technically refined teams.

In midfield, creativity and control are expected to come from Magala Isima Mulala and Abubakali Walusimbi.
