AECAF announces Nigeria’s return to the World Energy Council
The Abuja Energy Correspondents Association (AECAF) welcomed the appointments of Abdulrazak Isa and Bala Wunti as chairman and chief executive officer of World Energy Council Nigeria, respectively. The association called Nigeria’s return to the World Energy Council an important development for the country’s energy sector, Premium Times Nigeria reports.
New leadership
In a statement, AECAF said that Isa, Wunti and the members of the first WEC Nigeria council have experience in the energy industry, regulation, finance, academia and professional associations. The association separately noted Isa’s contribution to the development of local oil refining and industry.
Wunti has more than three decades of experience in the energy sector, AECAF said. In the association’s assessment, his knowledge in strategy, policymaking, revenue optimization and sector reforms could help WEC Nigeria turn renewed international engagement into practical results for the country.

Membership opportunities
AECAF believes that Nigeria’s participation in the World Energy Council could strengthen the representation of its interests in international discussions on energy security, energy access, sustainable development and a just energy transition. According to the association, engagement with the council could also facilitate partnerships between Nigerian institutions and international energy companies, investors, technology providers, research institutions and government representatives.
In AECAF’s view, Nigeria can promote investment opportunities through this platform in the oil and gas industry, oil refining, the natural gas sector, electric power, renewable energy and new energy technologies. The association urged the new WEC Nigeria leadership to cooperate with government institutions, businesses, professional organizations and academia, as well as ensure greater stakeholder engagement and transparency.
