Egypt’s new Medjool date harvest is just four weeks away, with national volumes expected to rise as more growers enter the sector each season. Last year’s campaign was a strong commercial success, with most Egyptian exporters selling their stocks early in the campaign.
Ramadan Elsayyad, commercial manager at Palm Hills Dates, shares an update on harvest timing, crop progress, and the outlook for prices and production.
Elsayyad says, “Production conditions are usual, and we expect a typical harvesting time. In Southern Egypt, harvesting will start around August 10th, and in Northern Egypt it will start around August 25th.”

“The crop is progressing beautifully. We are currently transitioning out of the Kimri stage (the early green development phase) and are just days away from entering the Khalal stage (the yellow ripening phase). To ensure maximum fruit quality and protection against pests and birds, our field teams will immediately begin wrapping the date bunches in protective mesh bags as soon as the yellow stage starts,” Elsayyad continues.
“The outlook for the upcoming season is incredibly promising,” Elsayyad states. “Across Egypt, Medjool harvest is projected to reach at least 60,000 tonnes. Thanks to favorable weather conditions during the fruit-set milestone earlier this year and improved agricultural management, the overall quality, size distribution, and moisture levels of the fruit are expected to surpass last year’s harvests, making this one of our most competitive seasons yet.”

The exporter anticipates prices to increase in the next season: “Prices for the new crop are expected to increase by at least 10%. This adjustment is driven by rising global and local supply chain pressures, including higher costs of fertilizers, advanced pest-control treatments, and increased agricultural labor wages. Despite these price adjustments, demand remains highly active across our primary export markets in Europe, East Asia, and the CIS, where premium Egyptian dates continue to see strong traction.”
“At Palm Hills, we are expanding our operations significantly. For the upcoming harvest, our production capacity is projected to increase by at least 30% to reach 2500 tonnes,” the exporter concludes.
