SPOKANE, Wash. — A new Egyptian restaurant in Spokane opened about a month before Team Egypt arrived as the city prepared for the 2026 World Cup.
The owners said they wanted to share their culture with the Inland Northwest through the food they served. They also said the timing of Team Egypt’s visit brought more attention to the business.
Owner Amir Talb said he was proud to introduce Egyptian food in Spokane and said he believed the city needed more variety in its food scene.
“Yeah, I am so proud to bring this food here to Spokane because in Spokane we need more diverse food, we need more options. So we are proud to be this first Egyptian restaurant to make this food here in Spokane and whole Washington state, nobody makes this food here…” Talb said.
The owners said media coverage tied to Team Egypt helped bring more visibility to the restaurant. That attention also helped draw local customers inside.
“So many news crews and media have come by, so it’s been amazing…” owner Leila Altassan said.
Altassan also said the response from Spokane residents had been encouraging as people continued supporting local businesses.
“Our Spokane community is so supportive, they like to support local companies and businesses. We’re very grateful and fortunate for this community…” Altassan said.
