Morocco Announces Sunday as First Day of Rabi’ al-Thani

Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs announced that Sunday, September 13, will mark the first day of Rabi’ al-Thani 1448 in the Islamic lunar calendar.

The ministry said it monitored the crescent moon on Friday evening, corresponding to 29 Rabi’ al-Awwal 1448, but did not sight the moon.

The ministry said it contacted all Islamic affairs representatives across Morocco, as well as Royal Armed Forces units involved in the moon-sighting process. All confirmed that they had not seen the crescent.

As a result, Rabi’ al-Awwal will complete 30 days, making Sunday the first day of Rabi’ al-Thani, the fourth month of the Islamic calendar.

Morocco determines the start of Islamic lunar months through official moon-sighting efforts conducted across the country. Islamic months generally last 29 or 30 days, depending on the sighting of the crescent moon.
