Cuban President: We Will Never Become a Colony of Any Empire

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) – International Service: Speaking at a ceremony and reflecting on his country’s colonial past, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel declared that Cuba—fully aware of what it means to be a colony or subject to neo-colonialism under empires—knows clearly that it will never again become a colony of any such power. He made these remarks amidst escalating political tensions with the United States and the continuation of US sanctions against Havana.

The Cuban President stated: “The blood shed for our independence, sovereignty, and right to self-determination will not have been in vain, and we will defend these values ​​to the very end.” Emphasizing the resilience of the Cuban people, Díaz-Canel condemned any foreign interference in his country’s internal affairs, affirming that the people of Cuba would stand united and in solidarity against external pressures.

These statements come as the Cuban government consistently identifies US economic sanctions as the primary obstacle to the country’s economic development and public welfare. Havana has repeatedly called on the international community to end the 60-year US blockade and allow Cuba to engage in normal trade and economic relations with other nations.

Díaz-Canel also expressed appreciation for the support of allied nations and global solidarity movements, reaffirming the country’s commitment to the path of independence and national sovereignty.
