Morocco Issues Orange Alert for Heatwave, Thunderstorms and Hail Through Friday

Casablanca – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an orange-level alert for a heatwave, thunderstorms, hail and strong winds expected across several parts of the kingdom from Wednesday through Friday.

Temperatures are forecast to reach between 42 and 45 degrees Celsius in the provinces and prefectures of Kenitra, Oussred, Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Smara, Tata, Errachidia, Zagora, Marrakech, Rehamna, Sidi Slimane, Khemisset, Ouazzane, Larache, Taounate, Moulay Yacoub, Fez, Sidi Kacem, Meknes, Fquih Ben Salah, Kalaat Sraghna and Beni Mellal.

DGM also expects temperatures between 38 and 42 degrees in Settat, Sidi Bennour, Youssoufia, Taroudant, Khouribga, Khenifra, Chichaoua and Sale.

The heatwave is expected to continue from Wednesday until Friday, according to the warning issued by the meteorological directorate.

In Oussred province, thunderstorms are expected to produce between 25 and 40 millimeters of rainfall, accompanied by hail and strong wind gusts. The weather event is forecast to begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday and continue until 2 a.m. on Thursday.

The warning covers several regions of Morocco as authorities forecast high temperatures alongside potentially severe thunderstorms in the affected areas.
