Expert calls for introduction of AI in school curriculum

A South Sudanese software engineer is calling for the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the national education curriculum.

Chol Daniel Deng says teaching learners about AI would help them critically assess and fact-check AI-generated images and content circulating on social media.

He says several countries have already introduced AI education in schools and universities, giving students skills in technology and innovation.

Deng says South Sudan should update its curriculum to keep pace with global technological developments.

“In the Western world, most of these AI courses now have been integrated to learn about the basic of AI from junior school going to university so the only best way that we can do is maybe we need to update our curriculum because we have to go based on how the world is moving,” he said speaking on Eye Radio’s Zone 72 Youth Program over the weekend.

“So, we need to update our curriculum, people should learn about the basic of AI in high school to be easy for us to differentiate how things are going and to be able to know well like which one is AI, which one is not AI,” he added.

Artificial Intelligence is a field of computer science that enables machines to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, including learning, reasoning and problem-solving.
