Caribbean Maritime University, CMU, has announced that it will be opening a satellite campus in Suriname.
It made the revelation at a press conference at the university’s main campus in east Kingston on Monday morning. The deal will see Suriname Maritime Institute rebrand under the CMU name.
Education minister, Fayval Williams says the expansion bodes well for the university.
Minister Williams is encouraging Jamaican students to consider careers in the maritime industry.

Meanwhile, assistant manager at the Foundation of Logistics Training in Suriname, Lloyd Gemerts says the deal will position the labour force to take advantage of his country’s growing oil and gas industry.
Mr. Gemerts says the partnership with CMU could be the first of many educational collaborations with Jamaican institutions.
