Nearly 40 people are homeless this morning, after a fire destroyed their dwellings in Bellrock, Olympic Gardens in West Central St. Andrew.
The fire broke out about 3 am on Monday, razing eight houses in the constituency of Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
Police say they are treating the incident as a case of arson. The lawmen theorise that a man deliberately set the fire, due to a damaged relationship with a woman.
Head of the St. Andrew South police, Superintendent Damion Manderson says the man, Kerron Mason, also known as “Blacks” or “Piggie,” is a person of interest.
Mason, who frequents White Hall Avenue and Sixth Street in Bellrock, is being urged to surrender to the Hunts Bay police station immediately.
One of the fire victims, Sherika Williams, says she lost all her belongings in the blaze, including school supplies for her three children.
