Chevron discovers oil and gas condensate in Angola’s Block 0
Chevron, through its subsidiary Cabinda Gulf Oil Company (CABGOC), has discovered oil and gas condensate at the 105-4X exploration well in Block 0 offshore Angola.
The well, located in the Lower Congo Basin, identified an oil and gas condensate column in excess of 600m in the main Pinda reservoir, with more than 90m of net pay reported as high-quality reservoir rock.

Block 0 is operated by CABGOC, which holds a 39.2% working interest. The other partners in the block are Sonangol with a 41% stake, TotalEnergies with 10% and Azule Energy with 9.8%.
The discovery is set for evaluation to determine its suitability for development as a tie-back to Chevron’s nearby facilities. This approach could provide a cost-efficient route into production, according to the company.
Chevron exploration vice-president Kevin McLachlan said: “This discovery is another important milestone for Chevron’s over 70-year history in Angola.
“By combining high-impact exploration with infrastructure-led opportunities close to existing facilities, we are growing our resource base, creating value and demonstrating that our strategy is delivering, as well as our continued confidence in Angola’s resource potential.”
The latest find follows a series of exploration activities by Chevron in sub-Saharan Africa.
The company currently produces around 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day net in the region.
Over the past year, Chevron has expanded its exploration footprint by acquiring acreage in multiple countries.
In Nigeria, the company farmed into two offshore blocks, PPL2000 and PPL2001, last year and was awarded deepwater block PPL2010 in the latest licensing round.
Since late 2024, Chevron has achieved three near-field exploration finds in Nigeria – Meji NW-1, South Delta AA and Awodi-07 – where it continues to advance its exploration and appraisal activities. Meanwhile, in Equatorial Guinea, it holds five new reconnaissance licences.
Chevron is also continuing exploration work in Angola in Blocks 49 and 50, Block 33 and Block 14/23.
As part of its exploration plans, Chevron is organising a multi-well drilling campaign throughout the region, including the Nabba-1X well in Namibia’s PEL90, which is expected to commence before the end of the year.
