The UN Security Council’s Libya Committee has announced the addition of the vessel “Avax” to its sanctions list against Libya, as part of measures aimed at combating attempts to export Libyan oil and petroleum products illegally.
The committee stated that the decision, which entered into force on July 22, 2026, includes a ban on loading, transporting, or unloading oil shipments, preventing the vessel from entering ports or obtaining refueling and marine services, and prohibiting financial transactions related to oil. The listing will remain in effect until July 22, 2027, unless the committee decides to terminate it before then.
The committee explained that the vessel, flying the Cameroonian flag and bearing IMO number 9058713, was spotted last April near the old port of Benghazi, in accordance with Security Council resolutions concerning the protection of Libyan oil resources.
