New Canyon Resources locomotives for Cameroon

The locomotives arrived at the Port of Douala in June 2026 and will support initial ore transport between the Inland Rail Facility and Douala in Q3 2026.

Canyon Resources has received seven CRRC Ziyang locomotives in Cameroon for the Minim Martap bauxite project’s mine-to-port
logistics chain.

The locomotives were delivered to Camalco
Cameroon, Canyon’s in-country subsidiary. A commissioning, testing and operator
training programme begun before initial rail movements start.

The first 60 wagons have left the factory
and are due to arrive in Cameroon in mid-August 2026. A further 100 wagons are
scheduled to arrive in Douala in late Q3 2026.

The Stage 1 rail fleet will consist of
seven locomotives and 160 wagons. Canyon expects this fleet to provide
transport capacity of about 35,000 wet metric tonnes per month.

The locomotive delivery follows Canyon’s
increase in its equity stake in Camrail, Cameroon’s main rail operator, from
9.1% to 26.9%. The larger shareholding gives Canyon closer involvement in
bauxite transport and the PQ2 rail upgrade linked to the Minim Martap logistics
chain.

Stage 2 of the project includes rail
infrastructure upgrades and the delivery of another 15 locomotives and 400
wagons. This phase depends on finalising USD 160m of additional funding and
would increase rail transport capacity to about 105,000 wet metric tonnes per
month by early Q3 2027. Without this funding, Minim Martap production remains
at about 35,000 wet metric tonnes per month.

Canyon plans the first bauxite shipment
from the Port of Douala in Q4 2026.
