WAKISO, Uganda, July 9 — Uganda National Media Group (UNMG), a media company tracing its origins to Horizon Media Uganda, relaunched on Thursday after a corporate restructuring, with executives saying the company will focus on digital publishing as it seeks to re-establish itself in Uganda’s media industry.

The relaunch ceremony was held in Naggalabi, Wakiso District, where company officials unveiled UNMG as the new corporate identity following the closure of Horizon Media Uganda after financial difficulties.

Founded in 2008 by businessman Ssekaayi Simon, the company said its restructuring forms part of a strategy to consolidate its media operations under a single holding group.

UNMG’s first major editorial product will be National Horizon, an electronic newspaper expected to be distributed through digital e-paper platforms before expanding into print.

Chief Executive Officer Ssentamu Derrick said the company aims to strengthen access to factual reporting while operating within Uganda’s media regulatory framework.

“We are bringing a new service to our clients and readers and we also promise to comply with regulators’ guidelines,” Derrick said during the launch.

The company said its headquarters are located in Kibibi Town Council, Gombe, with an operational office in Naggalabi.

Attendees at the event included Busiro East Member of Parliament Emmanuel Magoola and MK International Schools Director Bamulopa Sulaiman.

UNMG’s board includes Wasemi Sylvia as Board Director and Isaac Ssegawa as Non-Executive Director.

Uganda’s media sector has experienced rapid growth in digital publishing in recent years as news organisations expand online alongside traditional print and broadcast platforms. UNMG said it plans to develop its digital newspaper before introducing a printed edition at a later stage.
