Pear Orchard community group grills and cleans up park and cemetery

The Pear Orchard Neighborhood Association made a festive morning out of a clean up party at Liberia Park and Pear Orchard Cemetery June 27.

Neighborhood association president Delilah Johnson told the Enterprise she wanted this June event to bring together members of the Pear Orchard community who don’t or can’t make the monthly Thursday meetings at Theodore Johns Library.

Residents filled trash bags, collected discarded tires and carpet scraps along with other bulk rubbish.

After the clean up work at the Ollie Street park and the Hegele Street historic cemetery, hot dogs were grilled and other outdoor staples were served to volunteers.

Mayor Roy West stopped by after gifting Dallas Cowboys safety and Beaumont native P.J. Locke the keys to the city.
