Egypt’s Minister of Defense and Military Production, and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lt. Gen. Ashraf Zaher, held talks on Sunday with the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Haftar’s forces, Saddam Haftar, and the Chief of Staff of Haftar’s forces, Khaled Haftar, on strengthening military cooperation between the two sides.
In a statement, the Egyptian Armed Forces spokesperson said Zaher met Saddam and Khaled Haftar during their official visit to Egypt to attend the graduation ceremony of new classes from the Military Academy for Postgraduate and Strategic Studies. The meeting was attended by a number of senior military officials from both countries.
According to the statement, the talks covered a number of issues of mutual interest, as well as ways to strengthen military cooperation between the Egyptian and Libyan armed forces. Zaher reaffirmed Egypt’s pride in its close ties with Libya and stressed the Egyptian state’s and armed forces’ commitment to supporting the Libyan people.
The Egyptian Defense Minister also underscored the importance of maintaining coordination and unifying joint efforts to secure the shared border, curb irregular migration, and support security and stability across Libya.
