Africa’s Life Honors 23 Liberians in Civil War History Fellowship | Youth

Africa’s Life, a youth-based movement, has graduated a cohort of 23 young Liberians who successfully completed a four-week fellowship focused on the history of the Liberian civil war.

Through weekend classes, participants learned about the civil war through storytelling and the study of key historical timelines. Notably, all participants were born after the end of the conflict and therefore have no direct experience of war. This reality made the program especially meaningful, as it provided a unique opportunity for a new generation to engage with an important chapter of Liberia’s history.

The fellowship was designed to foster a deeper understanding of the causes, consequences, and lessons of the civil war, while encouraging participants to apply those lessons toward national reconstruction, peacebuilding, and responsible citizenship.

In addition to civil war history, the program covered themes of sanitation, patriotism, and technology. Using a children’s book on sanitation as a learning tool, participants were taught that one of the most practical expressions of patriotism is taking personal responsibility for keeping communities clean and promoting good sanitation practices.

The technology component emphasized the importance of responsible digital citizenship, online etiquette, and the effective use of technology in the 21st century.

Africa’s Life has announced that preparations are underway for a second cohort, which will continue the organization’s efforts to equip young Liberians with the knowledge, values, and skills needed to help shape Liberia’s future.

Africa’s Life is a youth-based Afrocentric movement working in the areas of technology, education, and the arts. The organization was founded in 2015 by Liberian poet and writer Lekpele M. Nyamalon.
