Speaking at the program, Indian Ambassador to Liberia Manoj Bihari Verma described yoga as one of India’s enduring contributions to global health and wellness, saying it continues to promote physical fitness, mental well-being and inner peace.
He said this year’s theme underscores the importance of yoga in supporting healthy aging through improved physical health, emotional balance, and resilience.
Ambassador Verma also reaffirmed India’s commitment to promoting yoga worldwide in the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (The World is One Family), noting the growing interest in the practice in Liberia.
Other speakers highlighted yoga’s role in improving public health, encouraging active aging, and fostering social harmony, while emphasizing its relevance in addressing modern health challenges.

The celebration featured a guided yoga session led by Massa Mamey Clarke, founder of Flow Studios Monrovia. Participants practiced yoga postures and breathing exercises based on the Common Yoga Protocol, a standardized routine developed by India’s Ministry of AYUSH for the annual global observance.
The Embassy also recognized winners and participants of a painting competition on the theme of yoga organized for students of Aware International School, presenting medals and certificates during the event.
The International Day of Yoga is observed annually on June 21, following its adoption by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, to promote awareness of the health and well-being benefits of yoga.
