The latest statistics from the Jamaica Constabulary Force show that 1,253 Jamaicans were murdered up to Saturday, November 25.
That’s 146 fewer than the corresponding period in 2022.

The St. James Police Division, recorded the highest number of murders, with 170.
That’s twenty-two fewer people compared to the 192 killed over the similar period last year.
A State of Public Emergency, SOE was declared across the entire parish on November 23 and will remain in effect for fourteen days.
The St. Andrew South Police Division registered 111 murders for the period.
That’s twelve fewer than the same period in 2022.
St. Catherine North, which is currently under a SOE, has seen 106 homicides compared to last year’s figure of 134.
The parish of Westmoreland recorded a 23-per cent decline in murders for the period.
But Clarendon and Hanover which are also under SOEs, have seen increases in murders.
Hanover recorded sixty-five murders, up from forty-three.
While 1-hundred people were killed in Clarendon, up from 89 last year.
St. Ann registered 75 murders this year.
That’s fourteen more than the corresponding period in 2022.
Portland has recorded only fourteen murders since January this year, compared to 11 over the review period last year.
The country has also seen a decline in all other major crimes when compared to the similar period in 2022.
Rape is down by seventeen per cent, robbery is down by sixteen per cent and break-ins have declined by thirteen per cent.
