Why Sundowns Rejected Overseas Offer For Mo…

Teboho Mokoena’s agent Glyn Binkin has revealed why Mamelodi Sundowns turned a lucrative offer from a team abroad for the Bafana Bafana midfielder.

It was reported that the Brazilians had rejected a bumper European offer for their midfielder, while there were also reports in Egypt claiming Al Ahly were interested.

Soccer Laduma reached out to the player’s agent, who confirmed that the defending Betway Premiership champions did not want lose their talismanic midfielder as they pushed for domestic and continental success. 

“Sundowns did indeed decline a substantial offer for Teboho (Mokoena) in January but timing was not ideal for them as they wanted to keep him in order for him trying to help them team in winning the league and CAF Champions League,” Binkin told Soccer Laduma.

However, Binkin hopes that the club will allow Mokoena to move abroad should they have a successful finish to the 2025/26 season.

“I’m hopeful that after a potentially very successful season that common sense will prevail and they will allow him to pursue of his dreams of playing abroad,” Binkin explained.

The Bafana midfielder has featured in 20 Betway Premiership games for the Brazilians this season, scoring on three occasions and providing two assists.

The 29-year-old joined Sundowns from SuperSport United in 2022, although his current contract is believed to be running until 2029
