65 days of pain: Family of slain UK-based Zimbabwean woman devastated as extradition case drags on

THE family of a slain Zimbabwe-born United Kingdom (UK) woman who was murdered by her husband, Ndodana Tshuma, is visibly frustrated over the delay in the latter’s extradition case in South Africa.

Tshuma, who fled the UK after allegedly committing the crime, is in South Africa where he is facing an extradition case and a charge of illegal possession of a firearm, with the former case having been postponed.

The delays have left the family of Nothando Khumalo devastated, with the case dragging on more than 65 days after the murder.

“Today, we had hoped to see a path forward in the extradition proceedings. Instead, we are utterly devastated to be facing yet another postponement and the prospect of an even longer wait for justice.

“We carry the pain of losing our beautiful girls in a way words can never fully explain. Every court date brings back the hurt, the questions, the waiting, and the longing for justice.

“It has now been 65 days since we lost them — sixty-five painful days of grieving, waiting, and hoping that the justice process would move forward.

“Today, we had hoped to see meaningful progress by way of the extradition proceedings beginning and being expedited, but we are once again faced with another postponement,” read the statement from the family.

Tshuma gruesomely murdered his wife and two children in the UK before fleeing to South Africa.

The fugitive was nabbed in South Africa after Bedfordshire police officers issued an alert.

Khumalo’s family say the court appearances of Tshuma bring back the traumatic memories they have been subjected to since the murder of Nothando.

“The delays are becoming increasingly difficult for us as a family. Each postponement carries a heavy emotional cost.

“The court sitting on Tuesday the 8th in South Africa was particularly painful. The accused sitting in that courtroom, seeing smiles and retorts that were promptly put in line by the magistrate, and hearing expressions of sympathy towards the alleged suspect was extremely difficult for us to process, while we continue to live with the devastating loss of three members of our family,” read the statement further.
