63 MPs boycott Monday session and call for amendment of the bylaws and a vote on the outcomes of the “4+4” committee

Benghazi – Sixty-three members of the Libyan House of Representatives announced they would boycott the session called by parliamentary leadership for Monday, September 14, 2026. They cited the lack of a clear agenda and the failure to honor a previous decision to prioritize amending the House’s internal rules.

In a statement issued Sunday in Benghazi, the members said the call for the session also ignored demands raised during recent consultative meetings.

The signatories said they would not attend any parliamentary session unless procedures and regulations were properly followed, including consideration of proposals that had received enough member signatures.

They noted that the outcomes of the “4+4 Committee” had been welcomed by 111 lawmakers, including the statement’s signatories and others in the House.

The members rejected the inclusion of any agenda item before the reform and amendment of the House’s internal procedure rules. They insisted that a vote on the 4+4 Committee’s outcomes should follow immediately after the rules were revised.

The statement stressed that amending the rules is a top priority necessary to organize the House’s work and put it back on the right track.

The signatories also expressed surprise and deep regret that, despite serious recent events in Libya, the House had not convened even a single session to respond. They blamed the parliamentary leadership for disrupting sessions.

They reaffirmed their firm refusal to attend any session that ignored the demands and decisions of the chamber.
