BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An inmate at the Louisiana State Penitentiary has died, according to the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections.
Corrections officials said Ronald Williams, 57, died at the prison on May 28.
The cause of death has not yet been determined. Officials said an autopsy has been ordered to determine how Williams died.
The death remains under investigation, and no more details have been released.
Louisiana State Penitentiary, commonly known as Angola, is located in West Feliciana Parish.
Williams’ death is at least the 20th inmate death reported by the Department of Public Safety and Corrections in 2026. Louisiana First News has asked the department to confirm the total number of inmate deaths reported so far this year.
